Sophia Kaounas

Elite Team Member Since 2019

Sophia first tried her hand at triathlon in 2016 by way of SavageMan’s Sprint distance triathlon in Deep Creek Lake, MD. With next to zero relevant athletic experience, she trained hard for about a month and managed to qualify for USAT’s Age Group Nationals at her inaugural race and was hooked. The rest *dramatic pause* is history.

Sophia couldn’t be more excited to race with the Elite Team for a 4^th season and proudly represent DC Triathlon Club for the 2023 race season. She looks forward to being challenged by and training with her teammates, promoting the overall good of triathlon and DCTC, and (safely) smashing some personal bests.

Goals for 2023

Top priority is staying healthy! I’d also like to PR my half marathon, qualify for IronMan’s 70.3 World Championship by way of Virginia’s 70.3 in Blue Ridge, try my hand at a couple of duathlons, and race Ironman Lake Placid competitively enough to earn a Kona slot. Last but not least, I’ve got myself a new triathlon bike that I’m eager to get dialed in and race ready. Super excited for this.

Favorite thing when not swimming, biking or running

I love practicing yoga and being outside. You can find me hanging in my hammock, roller blading, tossing a frisbee or football around, camping and hiking, running along the beach just to get slammed by a wave, etc. etc. I also love baseball, “Let’s go Nats!”. Lastly, I love cooking for friends and/or family. Come to my table! I’d be happy to have you.
