Elite Team Member Since 2019
Leslie Knibb
I’ve been enjoying triathlons on and off for the last 30 years, having been recruited by an old boyfriend to try Mrs. T’s Pierogies’ Chicago Triathlon in 1992. Working full-time limited my training and racing to sprints and Olympic-distance tris, but adhering to the adage, “when you can’t go faster, go longer”, I moved up to 70.3 and Ironman distances.
I also started coaching in 2012 and worked with adults and for three years, some local elite youth (ages 13-15) and junior (16-19yrs old) triathletes, and worked (2014-2018) for the USAT Mid-Atlantic paratriathlon committee, supporting local Paratri athletes and launching a race series in 2017. I’m excited to race for DCTri and cheer on our fellow team mates throughout this year and beyond!
About Leslie
Years of Racing
30+ years, sometimes interrupted.
Strengths
I’m happy when I can start a race and elated if I finish.
Favorite race
All of them for different reasons, learning more from the defeats
Goals for 2023
Hopefully start and pray to finish the IMWC in St. George with 7,374 feet of climbing in the wind on the bike and another 1.413 feet of elevation in the run. Half worlds is also in St. George, so same goal!
Favorite movie
Top priority is staying healthy! I’d also like to PR my half marathon, qualify for IronMan’s 70.3 World Championship by way of Virginia’s 70.3 in Blue Ridge, try my hand at a couple of duathlons, and race Ironman Lake Placid competitively enough to earn a Kona slot. Last but not least, I’ve got myself a new triathlon bike that I’m eager to get dialed in and race ready. Super excited for this.
Favorite food
Coffee.
Favorite thing when not S-B-R
Playing pickleball!
